Why Titanium Brake Shims?

Titanium has a lower thermal conductivity compared with other suitable metals, which makes it a good thermal barrier.

Thermal Barrier Comparison Table
Material Coefficient of Thermal conductivity
Titanium (Alloy 6Al4V)                              7.5
Aluminium                             220
Steel                               46
Copper                             401
Wood

0.04-0.4     (this is why pan handles are often made of wood)

Titanium is lightweight, strong and corrosion resistant, 85% of the space shuttles structure is titanium, it is used for medical implants, extensively in Formula 1 and also in the off-shore oil/gas industry.
